[SOLVED] Windows error 0x80073712 not fixed

That's actually perfect!! When time permits if you could restore back to July 23rd then we can get IE8 working again and then go from there. No personal files will be affected and only programs you may have installed since then would have to be re-installed.

This is after the Windows 10 reservation was made and just before I provided the fix to get IE8 working.

If you don't wish to do this, please let me know.

Of course. Why would it be easy. Do you happen to have a Windows 7 x64 With SP1 DVD or one you can borrow from a co-worker, friend, etc?

OK, here's the options we have. Let me know what you decide.

1. You can use the DVD and do a repair install. All of your data and programs should be intact and hopefully your system won't have any update issues including with IE. Likely the quickest resolution.
2. We can keep plugging away like we are to see if we can get this resolved. I just hate taking up so much of your time without any assurances that there will be a resolution.
3. Make an image of your machine and upload it to me. I'll restore in a VM and try to get working here. Then I can just send you a fix if I figure it out.
4. Disable IE since you don't use it. We can't completely uninstall it but we can disable it. I like this option the least because it leaves your machine vulnerable and I'm not sure if Windows 10 will install without IE being updated. Just don't know.

I'll do whatever you prefer.

I must have done something wrong as I no longer have anything telling me that Windows 10 has been reserved. Therefore I've changed my mind and would like to try and install Windows 10 - if it installs its fine whether IE is there or not.

You didn't do anything wrong. That's expected since a repair install was done. You need to install all the missing Windows Updates.

Also, you don't need to worry about the reservation icon anymore. You can simply download and install Windows 10 from the following link. Again, I'm not certain it will work without IE11 installed and working. Let me know what you decide.

I have installed every update (around 200). I think I'll give Windows 10 a go. I have downloaded the 64 bit tool. My system meets the criteria so do I need to know anything else apart from my Win 7 Product Key?

It's asking for the Windows 10 Product Key (I tried my Windows 7 key but it doesn't work.

Before I can answer you, how did you go about the steps?
1. Did you download the mediacreator and create a USB install or a DVD install?
2. Did you try the install while Windows was running? Meaning you just put in the USB or DVD and started the install?
3. Is this machine a custom build or an OEM (i.e. Dell, HP, Lenovo) machine?
4. Did Windows 7 come pre-installed on this machine or was it a retail copy that was used to do the install?
