running WU and "checking for updates" is taking a long time... Hopefully I will have good results and let you know.

This morning I started the install of downloaded updates and went to work.

Just got home to a reboot prompt. I haven't rebooted yet, but noticed 4 updates failed.

Should I try rebooting?

Yes please do. That's great news. After rebooting, check for updates again and install whatever updates show up. Continue this process until there are no more updates to install.

I am still running updates... things definitely were improved because the last cycle I only had 2 failures. I am now "checking for updates" but this takes many hours. I usually leave and come back the next morning or evening to see how it went.

By the way, do you know anything about MS's W7 "Convenience Rollup?" Do you recommend that be installed as a way to speed up future updates? I understand this Rollup is sort of like a "Service Pack 2."

Update:

I got down to 2 updates, they failed and reverted. Then I checked for updates again. Many hours later it said there were 19 important updates. I selected the earliest one, which was KB3146706, and tried to install that one only. It failed and reverted.

So I am sort of back to the beginning, although with fewer important updates than originally.

What do you recommend next? My non-MS services are still turned off in msconfig. Should I try update before enabling them again?
