Step 1: Stop "Windows Update" service:
Open Windows Task Manager. Open the tab "Services".
Right-click on the service-name "wuauserv" and select "Stop service". If you can't select "Stop service", the service is already stopped.
Step 2:
Install following 4 updates one after the other.
Reboot the computer if you're asked todo so, then resume with the next update.
That tried to install, but it led me to a black screen with a mouse pointer only. After sitting like that for 10 mins I shut down and restarted. Upon restarting, my update history says that KB3164035 is pending.
Ran check for updates again and now I have 15 updates. (Notice it doesn't list the pending one)
I had something weird happen, which was that SolidWorks 2013 (an installed program I haven't used in a while) started installing Solidworks SP2 upon restart (an interim update to that software), without my initiating it. I canceled. I am going to try to uninstall this program as I do not use it (it has been updated to 2016 although I don't have that version on my PC).
