Windows Updates won't install. I have tried everything!

Have you tried a restore back to where everything was working?
Then posts what updates are waiting to be installed. Don't install them just send us the list to be updated.
I am running 7 OS Home Edition and so far(knock on wood) everything has gone smooth as silk.

I tried to but, alas, that didn't work either and now there have been so many attempts that it doesn't even show an available restore point for before everything went squirrely (back in November.)

Just a thought...What would happen if you uninstall the last months of updates? Or even go back to November when you computer was working.
Let someone else chime in before doing this because I was just a thought.
My thinking(which is a rarity) if the updates are the problem then uninstall them and gradually work back slowly.
See what the BSOD guys and gals say before doing this.

Hello again,

As the export didnt work, can you please upload the log via:
Export CBS folder

1. Click the Start button
   
   then click Computer.
2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
8. Attach this to your next post please.

Actually I think this might be a missing file inside the SOFTWARE

I tried a couple of times, but it never created a 1.txt file. There was a file named "1" but it was a 0 byte file.

Strange, I will take a look at the hive manually :)

1. Click on the Start
   
   button and in the search box, type regedit
2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
   
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide
   
   
4. Once selected, click File > Export....
5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
6. Name this file SideBySide (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive

Software Distribution rename

• Click Start -> Type in CMD in the search -> Right click on cmd.exe and choose Run as Administrator
• Entre in the following commands:
  net stop wuauserv
  ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download DL.bak
  ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DS.bak
  net start wuauserv

Once completed please try and run windows update again.

SFC /SCANNOW

1. Click on the
   
   button. Inside the search box type in CMD
2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

1. Click on the
   
   button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:
   

   cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

2. Press Enter
3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Followed your instructions. Here are the results:

Ran the commands in the CMD window. Everything worked fine.

Ran Windows Update. Windows Update found 6 updates (the same six that haven't been installing). All six failed to install.

The Error Codes were the following: 80073712, 8007371B, 8000FFF



The SFC /SCANNOW completed:

"Verification 100% complete."
"Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

SFCFix script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
2. Go to your desktop and right click on the background -> Select New -> Text Document -> Name this file SFCFixScript.txt.
3. Open up SFCFixScript.txt and copy all of the following text inside the code box below and paste it into SFCFixScript.txt.
   

   LoadHive:: 
   COMPONENTS
   
   ::

4. Click on File -> Save. Close out of SFCFixScript.txt.
5. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
6. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
7. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
8. SFCFix will now process the script.
9. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
10. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Please run SFC /SCANNOW and post a new cbs log.
