Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

Thanks. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

What roles are installed on this server? Is it a Domain controller? Web Server? Exchange Server? Just a file Server?

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

It is a (local) domain controller also serving as a file server.

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

No it's just that one.

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

OK. At this point I'm hesitant to provide further fixes. The fixes I want to try have the chance to destabilize the server while fixing it. The main issue is that there is an update that your server has that is no longer available (superseded or otherwise). I've been trying to work around this but it's really being a pain. So it's up to you how you want to proceed.

We can stop at this point.
You can make a clone of this machine in an offline environment and we can mess with the VM to attempt the fix. If it works we can apply those changes to production.
We can work on the current server with the understanding that a fix could destabilize the server.

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

Hmm...leaving it here at this point would be to bad.
But i'm not familiar with cloning /virtualizing server machines, is there an 'easy' way to get a physical Win2012 Essentials machine virtualized to play around with?
Am I right assuming that if the fix fails, I would have to setup the machine from scratch to restore a stable state?
If we cannot resolve that issue here, I guess there's no way around it anyway.
So if we would continue here, what would the next steps look like?

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

I just managed to clone the machine, so we are ready to go.
I used Disk2vhd to virtualize the system volume, and created a new virtual server machine in VirtualBox based on that volume.

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

Nice!! OK, please start with the following on the VM. I need to make sure the clone looks the same, etc.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

Uhm...the result is quite short:

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

That tells me it either didn't run correctly or it archived the file we need into a .cab file. Can you please repeat one more time?

Re: [WinServer2012] Could not reproject corrupted file(s)

I'm just having some trouble keeping the VM running due to limited diskspace...I'll provide the logfile as soon as possible.
