OK, there's clearly been some installation of that update, but I don't see any entries in your COMPONENTS hive, which I would have expected to see.

Did you load your COMPONENTS hive as instructed in my previous post before running the search with FRST ?

Hello.

Yes. I did load COMPONENT as you post me. I`ve followed your instructions.

Thanks.

OK thanks. In that case we definitely have an incomplete install. The question now is why ?

As I said earlier, I'm going to have to consult on this, since it's not clear to me why an SSU should fail to install in this way.

May take a while before I can get back to you, but I will do so as soon as I'm able.

Can you please post me an updated copy of your COMPONENTS hive, it will have changed since the one you posted in post #3 of this topic ....

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • The file will likely be too large to upload here, if so please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please post me the link to the file

Thanks.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Next ...

  • Click Search button and type Command Prompt
  • From the results, right click on the Command Prompt icon, and select Run as administrator
  • A Command Window will open.
  • Copy paste the command below into it, then press Enter
  • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Once DISM has finished running ...
  • If it completes successfully, please try to update

If you are able to update, please let me know.

If you're not able to update ....

  • Click on the Search button and type Cmd
  • From the search results choose Command Prompt then Run as Administrator
  • When prompted by UAC allow the prompt.
  • When the Command Prompt Window opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press Enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:5017095
  • Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Now I going to run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Thank you.

That's kind of unexpected.

OK, please try the following to remove those two values instead ...

  • Start FRST.
  • Hit your Windows Key + R to open a Run window
  • Type Notepad then click OK
  • This will open an empty Notepad document
  • Copy/Paste the following into it (Don't include Code: ) .....
Code:
cmd: reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\COMPONENTS
deletevalue: HKLM\COMPONENTS | ExecutionState
deletevalue: HKLM\COMPONENTS | PendingXmlIdentifier
  • Save it as fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST (must be in this location)
  • NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user. Running it on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
  • Now press the Fix button once and wait.
  • FRST will process fixlist.txt
  • When finished, it will produce a log fixlog.txt in the same folder/directory as FRST64.exe
  • Please post me the log

Good. that looks to have done the job.

So please reboot your computer, then proceed with running DISM.

If it completes try updating

If update unsuccessful follow the instructions I posted on post #26 for uninstalling KB5017095

Hello again.

I´ve followed your instructions but....

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth it's ok.

I've rebooted the host but updates fails with:

0x80073712

and

wusa /uninstall /KB:5017095 results in a "patch do not installed on host"

I do not kwon how repair this.

Thank in advance.

No problem, that's what I expected to happen. It shows that KB5017095 is not properly installed, and we're going to have to remove it manually.

We're probably going to have to do the same with KB5023788, but for the moment let's just get KB5017095 removed.

  • Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the same location as FRST (must be in same folder or it won't process).

OK, looks like that was successful, so next we need to check whether KB5023788 can be removed.

  • Click on the Search button and type Cmd
  • From the search results choose Command Prompt then Run as Administrator
  • When prompted by UAC allow the prompt.
  • When the Command Prompt Window opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press Enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:5023788
  • Let me know if it says it was successful

If it errors out, as I expect it probably will, please do the following ....

  • Click Search and type CMD
  • Right click the CMD App from the search results and select Run as Administrator
  • With the App open ...
    • Copy/Paste the following Command into it ...
    • reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\COMPONENTS
      • This loads your COMPONENT hive.
    • You can now close the Command window.
  • Next ...
  • Right-click on FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator
    • Copy and paste ... KB5023788 ... into the Search box.
    • Click the Search Registry button.
    • When the scan is complete ...
      • A log will open on your Desktop ... SearchReg.txt
    • Attach the file ... SearchReg.txt ... to your next reply.
  • You may close any remaining open windows now.

  • Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the same location as FRST (must be in same folder or it won't process).

If processed successfully, first reboot your computer, then try to update.

If successful, let me know, if not post me your latest CBS.log
