Re: Win 7 X64 SP1 On Screen Keyboard (OSK) not starting

No problem with updates as only recently installed about 20 or so security patches up to Dec 2018 as advised Group B patching (as Ask Woody site advised)

I'm slowly running out of ideas. Can you run both SFC and SURT again please?

Here you go.

Just noticed that osk.exe appears in Task manager when invoked from Ease of access. It shows in both Applications and processes tabs as running.
Then when I click on Ok in the Pop-up box 'Could not start On screen keyboard' they disappear from Task manager.

Is this of any help to you as it confuses the hell out of me !

Re: [7SP1 x64] On Screen Keyboard (OSK) not starting

There is a possibility that when OSK starts, it looks for some library (dll) code and isn't finding it. Let's restore your redistributable runtimes. There is a very quick and easy tool that will do this. Download Visual C++ Runtime Installer (All-In-One) - MajorGeeks
Read what Tim wrote about it and run the video, he has there. Download and run the installer after creating a restore point. Since we don't know which runtimes are the problem, just install them all. Here is some background info on what these are. Why Are There So Many “Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables” Installed on My PC?

Hi, thanks for continued support in this.

Successfully installed all Visual C++ Redistributables as per your post. Then a cold Boot. However still the problem persists.

On the bright side though I now have all the versions (Was missing 2012)

Re: [7SP1 x64] On Screen Keyboard (OSK) not starting

I'm not surprised at the result ... it would have been too easy! The next library area we should pursue is .Net Framework and now updates come into the picture. A scary scene. I need some time to look into Framework. More info is here ... What Is the Microsoft .NET Framework, and Why Is It Installed on My PC? Considering the age of OSK, version 3.5.1 seems to be of most interest. I'm not sure if its best to try and fix things now or wait for DefCon 3 in a couple of weeks. By now, you should have been notified by WU that KB4099633 is waiting in the wings. It is a package rollup of 3 updates for versions 3.5.1, 4.5.2, and 4.6.1 Maybe the update, which is cumulative, will fix the issue. If you want to do a repair now, howtogeek gives a link to an MS repair tool, you can use. I've never had call to run it myself, but if get some time later, I might check it out. Possibly, others will shed more light on the situation.
