[SOLVED] Can't upgrade to Windows 10 from Win 7 Ultimate (error code 8007005)

It is a very difficult decision to make, because of all the personal information spread all over the place. Can you advise me all the folders where personal stuff is possibly present?

The file size has grown to 101 GB now, after uninstalling all the third party applications and doing the all-in-one repair. Isn't it weird?

Understood but I can assure you that my only interest is in fixing your problem. It's up to you. Just let me know.

The main ones are your desktop, your My Documents, My Pictures, My Downloads. I can't possibly know all the places though that personal info may be stored.

Not surprised. Even uninstalling programs takes temporary space so the file likely expanded but there's now a lot more white space. We can defrag/compact the VHD but I don't think it's necessary.

Within the VM, a short while ago I checked for Windows update. There were few updates available, two of them were Security update for Microsoft.Net Framework 4.5.2, they both failed.

Googled for the issue, then uninstalled Microsoft.Net Framework 4.5.2 and tried to re-install as suggested on Microsoft forum, but it didn't install. It cited an issue with Windows Installer Service. I checked Windows Installer service and it was started as Manual. I stopped and restarted the service but still installation failed.

These same two security updates for .Net Framework 4.5.2(KB3074230 and KB3074550) were successfully installed on my physical machine.

Looks like something happened while removing all the programs using "Add/Remove" within the VM.

Ok Please advise me how to send you this 101 GB file and which specific file you need.

Please disregard my post #103 as you will look into it once you get the vdmk file.

I'll send you a link via PM where you can upload the file to.

Ideally if you could send the original .VMDK file from when you first did the conversion. If you don't have that then just shut down the VM and then zip up the entire folder that you have the VM in and send that. If you have any questions, please ask.

Thanks.

Unfortunately I do not have the original file when I converted to VM, all I have is the current file, after all the work I have done in VM.

The zipped file is 56.9 GB, The link you PMed me allows files up to 10 GB only. What shall I do?

I wanted to give you an update. I was able to diagnose and resolve the issue. It's a corrupt user profile. I will be providing instructions for you today.

I have tried 3 times, when I go to step 9 on the Help page to "Fix a corrupted user profile", the new user name doesn't appear under users.

After creating a new user, I restarted the PC but didn't log into the new account, instead logged into the account I want to copy data from.

Can you please advise a solution to it?

Sure. Here is step by step on what to do.

Create New User Accounts
  1. Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button

, clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety, and then clicking User Accounts.
  2. Click Manage another account.

If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click Create a new account.
  4. Type the name (I used sukh) you want to give the user account, click an account type (I would choose Administrator), and then click Create Account.
  5. Click Create a new account again.
  6. Type the name (I used sysnative) you want to give the user account, click an account type (I would choose Administrator), and then click Create Account.
  7. Restart the PC.

Copy User Profile Info
  1. After the machine reboots, select the sukh account and wait until you are at the desktop.
  2. Reboot again and then select the sysnative account and wait until you are at the desktop.
  3. Click the Start button and then select Computer.
  4. At the top of the screen is a button named Organize. Click that and select Folder and search options.
  5. Click the View tab and ensure "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" is checked.
  6. A little further down, ensure that "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" is NOT checked. If you get a message to confirm you want to do this, please answer Yes.
  7. Click the Apply button to save the changes. Click OK to close the screen.
  8. Double-click on your Local Disk (C:) drive.
  9. Locate the Users folder and double-click to open.
  10. Double-click on the Administrator folder. You should get a message stating that you don't have permissions. Please click the Continue button and then answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it comes up.
  11. This may take a minute to load up.
  12. Click on any folder that you see inside the Administrator folder. Not hold down the CTRL button on the keyboard and tap the letter A on the keyboard. You should see everything get selected.
  13. This step is very important. Locate any files that begin with ntuser.dat and deselect those files by holding the CTRL button down on the keyboard while you single click each one with your mouse.
  14. Also locate ntuser.ini and deselect this one.
  15. Now copy all the remaining folders by holding your CTRL button down and selecting the C button on the keyboard.
  16. You can close this window now.
  17. Click the Start button again and select Computer.
  18. Double-click on your Local Disk (C:) drive.
  19. Locate the Users folder and double-click to open.
  20. Double-click on the sukh folder. You should get a message stating that you don't have permissions. Please click the Continue button and then answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it comes up.
  21. Hit the ALT key once on the keyboard and you should see a menu system show up at the top. You will have File...Edit...View...Tools....Help. Click the Edit menu and choose paste.
  22. You will get a Confirm Folder Replace dialog. Check the box that says "Do this for all current items" and click the Yes button. You will likely get a Copy File confirmation dialog. Check the "Do this for the next conflicts" box and select the first option which is "Copy and Replace".
  23. Reboot and sign in with your new user sukh.

Let me know when this is complete.

OK I followed everything as instructed until Step 21.

After choosing the paste in Edit menu, under step 22, I got this dialog box

Folder Access Denied.jpg

I clicked continue.

Then I got this dialog box

Copying dialog box.jpg

It copied 0 bytes in just 1 second and that's it. It didn't copy all files from Administrator folder. I didn't get any Confirm Folder Replace dialog( normally you get option copy and replace, copy but keep.

Do you think I missed something or is there something else I should do?

Can I copy and paste all folders one by one from Administrator to SUKH folder?

Can I copy and paste all folders one by one from Administrator to SUKH folder?

Yes do this. Don't forget to copy the files that are in the root of the Administrator folder as well. Just don't copy any files beginning with ntuser.dat or ntuser.ini.

There are some short cut to folders like Application Data, Cookies, Local Settings etc, which can not be copied and pasted.

I copied all folders one by one except those which were short cuts (access denied dialog appears when double clicked) and all ntuser.dat files and ntuser.ini file.

Rebooted and logged in as SUKH, I got most of the stuff on desktop, but have problem opening up anything from the right half of the Start menu. (like Computer, Control Panel, Devices Printers...etc. It say I don't have permission to access
