disk management unable to connect to virtual disk service

Don't get offended my man, I know that it's not in your pocket, I was just touching bases with you to let you know that I am still here because I haven't heard from you in a few days. You must had a rough day today Xilolee chill out we'll find the solution. You should by now know that I have great confidence in you and also in myself, I am go - gotter

  1. Download Process Monitor latest version (click) (if you didn't already have it): it's portable, hence you only need to unzip/decompress it on your desktop (or in your preferred folder).
  2. Open process monitor, leave default settings.
  3. Open disk management: keep an eye at the time you start it and at the time the error appears
  4. Right click on the event before you tried to open disk management, right-click it, click exclude events before
  5. Right click on the event after you tried to open disk management, when the error appeared, right-click it, click exclude events after
  6. File, save, save the file, upload it here. :smile9:

could you show me in a picture because I am not seeing what you are describing. I have process monitor and has used it before but I am not seeing right click on event before or the other thing that you mention.

Sure:
( Click to show/hide )

Yup, it is.
If you can reduce it to the time from when you click disk management to the one when the error appears, it would be better. :)
The first log lasts about 90 seconds and it could suffice, by the way.

man I had to wreck my brains to finally figure out how you got to that point in the picture that you sent me. I had to go to edit then find disk management then I right click to properties and saw exclude events before and after.

How many (about/circa) seconds/minutes are flowing (passing?) between your try to run disk management and the error?

Re-try to open disk management and then use the following command.
It (should) exports event viewer errors and warnings to your desktop in a file named Errors-Warnings.txt (it works on my system, Win10, but who knows...):
(wevtutil qe application /c:20 /rd:true /f:text /q:"Event[System[(Level=2)]]" && wevtutil qe application /c:20 /rd:true /f:text /q:"Event[System[(Level=3)]]") > "%userprofile%\desktop\Errors-Warnings.txt"
Post the results here, possibly in show/hide tags (between hide and /hide tags), or between quote or code tags.

Many errors and warnings about MS Works suite and avast.
And VSS:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: An internal inconsistency was detected in trying to contact shadow copy service writers. The Registry Writer failed to respond to a query from VSS. Please check to see that the Event Service and Volume Shadow Copy Service are operating properly, and please check the Application event log for any other events.
Let's get some VSS logs (with the hope they'll help...):
(echo. & vssadmin list providers & echo. & vssadmin list shadows & echo. & vssadmin list shadowstorage & echo. & vssadmin list volumes & echo. & vssadmin list writers) > "%userprofile%\desktop\VSSadmin results.txt"
After the command you should find vssadmin results.txt on your desktop: zip it and upload it here.

You didn't see this question (or ignored because it is incomprehensible? :banghead: ):

Yes I can because I fixed the restore point earlier today. I did notice though from time to time my restore point would stop working for some unknown reason. I looked at my restore point today and noticed that it was not keeping it's daily restore point duty. With vista vista restores daily restore points, so when I saw that my last restore point was the 1-23-2017 I knew something was wrong

Do MSworks and avast work well?
Are you able to remove them, then reinstall them?
If yes, after you removed avast, try to open disk management; then reinstall avast.

Avast works well and I never used MSworks before and yes I will remove them and reinstall avast only

I removed them both completely and did not reinstall them . I installed microsoft essentials anti virus because I knew with avast you will get some false positives when you do a sfc /scannow. and I still have the same problem of not connecting to the virtual disk.

enabled the disk defragment scheduled task and even ran the defrag but still got the same results.
