[SOLVED] Error 8007312; SFC /scannow and SfcFix Both Clean

I agree, I don't think either will work. I'm willing to walk you through a Clean install. I believe this may be your only option at this point.

As another hail mary you can try to plug in your USB (the one you bought) into the computer and attempt to run the Setup.exe again.

Didn't work - says autorun is corrupt.

System restore worked - or so it says. But now I can't open msconfig to get out of safe mode. It's like the malware knows my every move before I make it.

I can't wrap my head around the fact I came to this forum with a relatively minor problem and leave with malware and an unusable computer.

I've mentioned this before but I don't believe you have any malware. I think your machine is corrupt beyond repair and I likely had something to do with this. I've helped well over 500 people with Windows Update/Servicing issues and have never had an instance like this. It's extremely unfortunate and I feel completely sick about this happening. It's extremely rare for something like this but does happen. I also do Malware Removal at another forum and have helped hundreds with a few close calls but nothing like this.

I'm doing my very best to come up with a resolution so you have a workable machine. I believe you said you backed up your critical data. If that's the case I believe we can do a fresh install, re-install Office and QuickBooks and be operational.

Please let me know your intentions.

New problems keep popping up, that's why I think there's something actively malicious in my computer in addition to the corruption.

I have my my personal files backed up on an external drive. I also have a full backup and system image file dating back to the beginning of the year.

I would like to back up my Outlook because I have important work emails there but don't know how.

I would be willing to do a fresh install but how can this occur if I'm not able to run set up? Wouldn't I run into the same roadblock I did when I attempted inplace repair?

This isn't a problem. I can help you with this. Do you happen to know how you are connecting to your work email? Is it an Exchange MAPI connection, an IMAP connection for just an SMTP connection?

Not at all. Completely different process so you would not run into the same issue. Would you prefer to go back to the System Image file that you made at the beginning of the year or would you prefer just to do a fresh install?

I'm pretty sure it's IMAP but I can't verify because I can't open the email accounts tab under tools.

I would say try the system image from beginning of the year. Then I can update my personal files there with the personal files I saved a few days ago. What if after this I still have no internet connection, is that possible?

Not possible.

How much space do you have on your external hard drive that you backed up things on?

Perfect. I want to take an image of your machine as it exists now. That way once we restore, if we find later that there was something missed we will have it. I always do this before formatting a machine.

Boot Your Failed Machine with USB Drive
1. Insert the USB Drive into your Failed computer. This would be the initial one we used (the smaller one).
2. Ensure the power is off on this computer.
3. Ensure that your system is configured to boot 1st from the USB Drive before your main hard drive. There are variations on how to do this depending on what machine you have
however a couple links that show the general steps can be found here and here.
4. Once the BIOS is set to boot from the USB Drive, when you boot your machine with the USB Drive plugged in you should get a message asking you to hit any key to boot from the USB.
Go ahead and do this.
5. When it's fully loaded you will be at a prompt as follows: x:\windows\system32
6. Unplug the small USB drive and plug in your big external drive.

Then do the following and let me know what the drive letters are of the external drive and your local disk.

1. Type notepad in the command prompt window and hit enter.
2. Select the File menu and choose Open. Double click on Computer so you see all of your drive letters. You will see drive letter X: as well as others. Identify which one is your Local Disk. It won't be X.

Unfortunately I need to leave for a couple hours but will be back for the rest of the night to assist.

I'm back. Please type the following at the command-prompt and hit enter so we can capture an image.

imagex /capture c: e:\corrupt.wim "Sysnative"

To be clear that is imagex followed by a space followed by a forward slash and the word capture followed by a space followed by c: followed by a space followed by e:\corrupt.wim followed by a space and then "Sysnative".

Let me know if the backup starts.

Ok. Sorry, I had shut down, now I'm back at the boot menu with the large external drive with the system image plugged in. Do I want to boot from USB now as in post 310?

When I clicked any key to boot from USB I got "Bootmgr is missing. Press cntrl, alt, delete to restart" which I did and nothing happens .
