[SOLVED] ISATAP Adapter #2 Problems

If the new router is staying connected and there are no problems, leave the channel selection to Auto. Your closest neighbor's router is also set to auto, so when you change your channel his router changes, too. I don't think the DLink is defective, but if everything is working now it doesn't matter.

I have looked at he thread over the last day or two and you have a new router i would monitor it over the next week or so where you normally use the laptop and see if any disconnections, please post a xirrus snapshot for us to review and continuously montior with xirrus to see if the signal drops.

I agree the Dlink was not defective.

I'll leave the channel to Auto, Fred - thanks for your advice.

CyberMan, I'll post a Xirrus shot - do you mean no matter what? Disconnects or no disconnects? I actually unhooked the wireless network and went wired with the main computer yesterday. There isn't a huge problem, and I find the setup of the Linksys easy; however, I'm having a little problem with Router username/password and SSID name/password. Not so much a problem with distinguishing between the two, as I understand that, but I'm having the annoying problem of not being able to log into the router to view settings.

I know what the address is for the router, but when it asks for username and password, I type in admin/admin - doesn't work. I've typed in admin/(blank password) - doesn't work. I've tried lots of different combinations; but it seems to want me to type in my SSID password for the router password and it says it's unsecure, so I don't want to do that. I've been getting into the settings by using the setup in the CD. I know I'll figure it out, and didn't want to bother you guys with something that seems so basic.

So, I disassembled the wireless network yesterday (reset the router, too), and didn't even look at the computer today. I may not be able to spend much time at the computer in the next couple of days, but if I get a chance, I'll set it up again. Then I'll start posting the Xirrus shot.

Deeeeee! Keep it Simple! :smile9: You shouldn't have to go through all this.

Open a web browser and type in 192.168.1.1 then press enter. You should immediately be asked for a user name and PW. Leave the user name blank and the password is admin - those are the default settings if you reset the router. Or else use the user/pass you assigned. Look for a tab in the setup page called Management, usually that's where you can change the password used to access the router's setup (this is different than the wireless network PW).

After that you can go to the Wireless Settings & Wireless Security page to set up your wireless network name and password for it. Leave the channel selection to auto. That's it. Don't play with settings unless you understand what they do. Stop there, and use your computer for a few days. There's nothing else you need to test unless there's a problem like disconnecting or slow connections. There's no need to do anything with Xirus. All Xirus does is show a snapshot of other wireless networks in your area and the channel those routers are using. It does not do any troubleshooting.

 You're right. But honestly, the log-in wasn't working. (edit: actually, the confusion was the router password/wireless password...) I've got it all set up again, and I think everything is fine now. I'll use the computer for a few days, and post back to let you know how things are going. Thanks Fred.

Is it ok if I delete at this time (in Documents) autoruns, Windows 7_Vista_jcgriff2, Windows 7_Vista_jcgriffzip, BSOD_Windows7_Vista_v2.64_jcgriff2_, System (Event Log), and Systemzip?

D.

Well... I've been using the computer for a few days, and haven't any disconnects at all. Many thanks to all of you who helped me get to the root (ha) of the problem. If I have any more computer problems, I'll be back. I'll be back reading the forums, too. Take care everyone.

Thanks again, D.
