My PC is acting very strange

Thanks, Rob.

Crystal, yes, you can upload the file at Google Drive or OneDrive or Dropbox or any other cloud service, and then get a link for it. Copy that link and paste it here, so I can see the log.

However...

Since the SFC utility ran twice founding corruptions that could not be fixed, I expect that this log will just confirm this to us.

What we did until now, is a basic cleaning of the computer and a partial system repair. That's why the computer seems to work fine. But the fact that there are are still corrupt files, is not good. Probably the upgrade failed because of this corruption. Having our options getting limited, and having in mind that you have your files backup, I would suggest you to be prepared for a clean install of the operating system. Yes, I will check the CBS log when you post it, but meanwhile please start doing the following:

1. Prepare a bootable USB drive with Windows 10

These links will guide you how to do it:

Create installation media for Windows
Download Windows 10

2. Make your computer boot from USB drive

You have to change boot order, so when the time comes, the computer will boot from the USB drive, installing Windows from scratch.

This link maybe helpful: How to Change Computer BIOS Settings

================================

To sum up:
  • Upload the CBS log and give me a link for it
  • Start preparing the procedure for a clean install (steps 1 and 2 above)

TIP OF THE DAY: Hope dies last. :-)

Hi, Crystal.

I asked from some colleagues here to share their opinion about your computer's situation. I will be back to you as soon as I have something new.

Meanwhile, yes, please go on with the bootable USB drive. (y)

Yes, we uninstalled it, since it was not correctly installed for some reason and caused problems.

Now, please do the following once more:

Run Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM)
  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
Code:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Let the scan run until the end (100%). Depending on your system, it can take some time.
  • Please post here the result you got (a screenshot).

When DISM finishes, you can then run SFC from the same command prompt window, but full instructions as if starting fresh:
  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter
Code:
sfc /scannow
  • Let the scan finish.
  • You will normally get one of the following results:
    Code:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation
  • Please post the result you got (a screenshot).

I got this error after reaching 100% , attached the mentioned log incase you'll need it.

It asks you to wait a few minutes and then run the command again. So go on once more.

If you receive an error again, please attach the latest DISM log which will be located here:

C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Hi, Crystal.

Try the following which often solve the specific problem:

Step 1: Follow the steps below and check if Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is set to Automatic and Running under Startup type and Status:
  1. Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Services and select the top most search result.
  2. Locate Remote Procedure Call (RPC)services and check if Status shows Running and the Startup Type is set to Automatic.
  3. If not set, double click on the service and select from the drop down bar Automatic under Startup type and Service status to Running.
  4. Click on Apply and OK.
  5. Check if the changes are effective after closing the window.
Step 2: Perform DISM Scan after following Step 1 and check if you are still receiving the above error code and error message on the PC.

Hi, Crystal.

Since you didn't respond yet, and to make things move a bit faster, in case you got again the same error after the suggestion in my previous post, please do the following:

Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Free Portable
  • Download Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Free Portable from here: Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Free/Pro
  • Save the zip file on your Desktop.
  • Extract the content of the file on the Desktop.
  • Open the extracted folder, find Repair_Windows.exe and double click to run the program.
  • Accept the terms of use.
  • Jump to Repairs.
  • Open Repairs.
  • Make sure to put a tick next to these repairs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 16, 20, 25, 26, 27.02 and 28.
  • Start Repairs.
  • The computer may need to restart. If not, restart it.

After the above, perform DISM Scan again and check if you are still receiving the same error.

Turn the computer off from the power button. Restart, and try the Tweaking.com as instructed above. Have in mind that it will take some time to perform the repairs (and hopefully the result will be better from what we got until now).
