You may try that again but I think it will fail due to the current corruption.
Do following otherwise:
  • Reboot the machine.
  • Click the Start button and type cmd in the search box.
  • Right-click on the cmd that comes up and select Run as administrator.
  • Once you are at the command prompt, copy/paste the following line and press enter.
    pnputil -a C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_mf.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16521_none_b034bbf160fa08cd\mf.inf
  • You will likely receive a prompt that the publisher of the driver cannot be verified. Please install the driver anyway as this message is normal.

I'll do a back up over night of the disc image before I attempt the update, however to date, I've not been successful with any win 10 updates.

I tried the pnputil and got the same error as always, element not found.

is there a permission issue going on? The file is physically there.

Maybe, that's why we tried using FRST first.

Follow the instructions below. If anything is unclear, just ask first.

Click Start typ regedit in the searchbox and press enter.
Allow the program to run.
"Registry-editor" will open. On the leftside browse to the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\DriverOperations

Rightclick on it and select Permissions.
A new window opens, click the button Advanced.
A new window opens, select tab Owner.
Put a checkmark at Replace owner on subcontainers and objects
Select Administrators (...) then click Apply and OK.
In the list "Group or user names" select Administrators (...).
Next, put a checkmark to allow "Full Control" and click OK.
Rightclick the registry-key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\DriverOperations again and select New - Key.
Are you able to add the subkey 0 ?
If successful done perform the instructions in message #466 again and report the result.
You can close Regedit when done.

There was not an owner tab, but the rest of the directs seemed to fit, however soon as I hit apply I got an error.

  7. When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'Search.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also. Close Notepad and attach the file 'Search.txt' to your next reply.
  8. You may close any remaining open windows now.
