Windows just updated and on restart the sdiagnhost errors have stopped. I just ran the troubleshooter on the wifi (just to test) and it ran successfully. So at this moment it looks like everything maybe fixed!

Great. Fingers crossed. Please report back after a couple of days.

So everything has been great since Peter's help in October last year. Till this week, i turned on my machine and noticed i was being told to re-activate Windows. When i attempt (within Win 8.1) to do so via Control Panel > System > Activate Windows it just tells me it "Can't activate, try again later" and this error, Error code: 0xC004F074.

One of the suggestions i read was to run sfc, but having done so SFC found but couldn't correct the found corruptions.

I've attached the CBS file, if anyone is able to have a look for me, see if this is partly why i might of suddenly found my Windows de-activated.

I restarted and ran SFC /Scannow which found but was unable to fix corruptions. CBS file is attached.

Can you see exactly what's wrong? I haven't made any changes and not sure there has been any Windows updates so not sure where this problem has suddenly come from.

Step 1:
WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
    1p8eDnI.gif
  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Step 2:
Restart the computer.
Open an elevated command prompt.
Copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

Code:
sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue

Code:
copy %windir%\Logs\CBS\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Zip this file and attach the zipped cbs.txt to your next post.

Hi Peter,

I ran the fix, restarted, ran SFC /scannow and it's come back all clear.

Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600]
(c) 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

However, i'm still unable to 'activate' (or in my case re-activate) my Windows 8.1.

I appreciate this is a Windows Update error forum but do you have any suggestions as to how i can get this resolved? I still do not know what has happened for it to become de-activated.

The error i get when i try is "Windows cannot activate at this time, please try again later" and the following error code Error code: 0xC004F074.

I do not know my product key (and it only shows the last 5 characters) when i go to System > Activate Windows > Activate Windows Online. So can't run the manual activation that i've seen suggested.

Hi Peter, apologies for the late response. I was able to get the Windows Activation sorted in the end. Thanks for the help

Your welcome. Can we mark this thread as solved ?
