The screenshots I showed you yesterday were after the new USB flash drive was installed. The drive shows up in device manager but it does not show up in windows explorer. As a result, I cannot access the drive in windows applications.

The new one never launched when plugged in as it was not recognized in windows. Usually it can be formatted after plugging in. Is there another way?

I have tried formatting via Linux Distribution and by using the command prompt; however, neither work because they do not recognize the device plugged in. When given an option to select the drive, the drive does not appear. The DVD drive appears (Drive E) when plugged in but USB drives do not.

I tried to update my drivers and received this message regarding a corrupt registry. Do you think the registry is the cause of all my problems?

I think it goes even deeper because your HDD is failing.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a service and post a link here.

I am willing. I have very little on the computer except MS Office, which I would upgrade to a newer version anyway. I have no local files (I use the cloud). If the hard drive is failing, I would most likely replace the Notebook by next summer, when my work increases. I would like to try any solution now to keep the computer usable for another 6 months.

1. Please download and unzip the above file. Copy the unzipped file to a USB drive
2. Boot to the BIOS and start the Easy Flash process. Make certain to select the USB drive when asked to select where the file is.

Be extremely careful while doing this as BIOS flashing can damage your hardware if done incorrectly.
