It's been a few months since I tried it. I definitely recall resetting PC but i don't recall if I tried it in WINRE mode. The reset did not work. It was not able to complete the process.
Yes. Should I "remove everything" or choose "restore factory settings" . That would restore Windows 8 in my case since that what came with the PC. I am willing to try either.
Tried first method and after about 30% completion I received the message "There was a problem resetting your PC". Will try to restore to factory settings now.
On exiting that first process, I had trouble booting up. The ASUS screen shows as usual but then instead of proceeding to run Windows, it keeps looping back to the ASUS screen. Windows would not start. I was able to get into SAFE mode but the behavior was unusual. Instead of starting in safe mode, it went into automatic repair. I then get a message that automatic repair cannot fix the problem. If I restart, it gets stuck.
I cannot get back into Windows to create a bootable USB. On another computer I was able to download the MCT and the latest Windows 10 disk image and put them on a flash drive. When I try to boot from the Flash drive via BIOS, i get 1 of two messages:
Check Cable Connection!
and
Missing Operating System
Clearly Windows is damaged to the point of not being able to load it. Am I doing something wrong with the Flash drive to get it to boot?
Downloaded it from MS website. Apparently that is not enough. It needs to be written as a bootable image. Without the ability to get into my computer, I can't create a bootable image. Is there no way to boot in safe mode without first getting into Windows?
