Win7 (32 & 64 bit) systems that will not install any updates to .NET Framework

Please rename the assembly folder to something like assembly_old, reboot, check that it is still renamed and that it has not been recreated and retry one update related to .NET Framework.

I have completed these steps but got error. Since you didn't specify I just used 4514602 for my test. Got the following:

I also tried to run the 4.8 standalone again. No difference in outcome but I do have a log file from it. Still no signs of any msi*.log files that we should be getting as part of the MSI verbose logging though.

This may prove troublesome (as if the rest of the issue hasn't!). I manage all of these systems remotely with an RMM agent running on each. If I do safe mode w/ networking my agents won't come online and I'll be unable to reconnect to the system.

It failed too. Same "Code 656" that I was seeing for the .NET stuff. I'm guessing we're dealing with an OS that is hosed.

Will do. It will likely be tomorrow before I can continue with this but I'll update this thread once I have.

Okay sorry for the delay. I got caught up in a few other patching problems. This morning I downloaded and ran the tool. When asked about what app I was having trouble with I designated .NET 4.6.1 and ran the uninstall. No prompt for reboot. Do I now try to install 4.8 from the stand-alone package?

Got same error. I then reran Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter choosing same options. This time .NET 4.6.1 doesn't appear in the list so maybe that's progress? I don't know if that is helpful or not but figured I'd throw that in for free. ;)

Can you elaborate? I have the file ndp48-web.exe and that is what I've been trying to run each time. When you say extract the installer what do you mean?
