[Win7SP1] Update failure

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hello,
Here is the updates list file. I also included a screenshot of Windows update showing Win 10 is reserved. The reason I include this is that I am wondering if any of this has any of this has to do with the event I went thru trying to upgrade to Win 10. I attempted and failed the upgrade late July 2016, and since I've had this update problem.
Hey, the delay is okay if you would tell me you are working on my problem. I understand that I am asking for free help from experts, and I am not complaining. Without replies though, I don't know what to think. Thank you for replying. Is there anything I can do to help?

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hi

Thanks for the list. Now, lets rename the SoftwareDistribution folder. Before we do that, I will let you know that resetting the SoftwareDistribution folder will cause Windows Update to check every single update to see if it is installed or not. Due to this, the check for updates could last hours. If you want to, you can have the computer check for updates overnight, or during the weekend

Reset SoftwareDistribution Folder
1. Click on Start :startorb: and type cmd. When Command Prompt appears, right-click on it, and click Run as Administrator
2. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands one at a time and press Enter and go to the next command
Code:
net stop wuauserv
ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download DL.bak
ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DS.bak
net start wuauserv

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hello,
I pasted one line at a time and pressed enter. After pressing enter after the last line, it replied that the update service is starting, and about one second later it replied that the service was started successfully, and shows C:\Windows\system32. No replies that anything else is happening. Did I do it correctly since it completed quickly?

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hello
I thought I should check Windows Update this morning. See attached. First screenshot is what displayed first, so I clicked on "check for updates" and came back to it about 15 minutes later to see the display in the second screenshot. I closed it.
Hope this helps.

Yes, it is quick. All we are doing is stopping the Windows Update service, renaming a file and a folder, and then starting it up again

Could you restart your computer and check for updates again?

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hi

I forgot to mention that this also resets the Windows Update's update history. Check for updates
Note: It could take up to several hours because all Windows Updates must be checked to see if they are installed or not

That certainly is strange. Lets fix up the Avast! CheckSUR issues first:

Download the attached View attachment SFCFixScript.txt and move the archive to your Desktop
Note: Make sure that the file is named SFCFixScript.txt, do not rename it.
Save any work you have open, and close every programs
Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hello CKing,
Will do now and report back . Also, Windows, Windows Live Photo Gallery, and Windows Explorer won't transfer mp4 files from my android device, but will transfer jpg files. I had no problem doing this before this Win7 Update problem. Related problem?
Thanks,
Jeff

I am not sure. I don't own an android device to test this, but from my research, android devices use MTP, rather than the standard USB protocol. This troubleshooting guide may help

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hello

After taking a look at the log, this should fix the Avast! COMPONENT issues :) Please run the SURT installer again, and it will create a new log.

Hello CKing,
The troubleshooting guide worked! I clicked on MTP, and the mp4 files appeared for transfer. THANKS.
Jeff
No problem :)

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hello CKing,
SURT is being installed. Windows Update Standalone Installer window says it is "searching for updates on this computer..." This has been running now for about 12 hours. I'll leave it running.

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hi

That is taking way too long. You can stop the installer. Instead, change the Windows Update settings to never check for updates temporarily. Then, manually download and install these updates in this order:
KB3177467
KB3172605
KB3185330
If any of these updates say they are not applicable, skip them. If they require a restart do so. Let me know if they give any error. If they are successful, then you can change the settings of Windows Update back to automatically install updates, and run SURT again
