Windows 11: Fails to install update KB5039212 (0x80188309)

The $WinREAgent has been re-created.

I got the error when the installation reaches 100%, just like the other times.

As for SetupDiag.exe a cmd pops-up real quick and closes, no files are created.

  • Right-click to run the tool as administrator.
  • Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  • Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.
 
Is this version of Windows 11 legally activated, this because I noticed also other (cracked) software like Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop.
 
Yes, my Windows 11 is activated with a retail licence, activated with a proper key.
I've installed it back in January 2023 iirc
 
And the Adobe software?
  • Download CKScanner from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick CKScanner.exe and click Search For Files.
  • After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
  • A message box will verify that the file is saved.
  • Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.
 
As well as Autodesk Fusion (Eagle 9.6.2) as it seems. Cracked software is a known source of Malware, so I would recommend uninstalling all the pirated software. Then run the following tool and post the result.

ESET Online Scanner and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on esetonlinescanner_enu.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  • When the tool opens select the English language and click on Get Started.
  • Accept the license agreement, and select in the "Before we start..." screen the following options:
    • No thanks, I am not interested. (if you don't want to share anonymous data with ESET.)
    • Enable feedback system (recommended).
  • Click on Continue and click on the Full Scan option.
  • Select Enable ESET to detect and quarantine potentially unwanted applications - then click Start scan. (This may take some time.)
  • When the scan is ready and if threats have been detected, select Save scan log. Save it to your desktop as Eset.txt. Click on Continue.
  • ESET Online Scanner will now ask if you'd like to turn on the Periodic Scan feature. Disable this option if you don't want to plan the periodic scan.
  • Click on Continue If you left feedback, click Submit and continue. If not, Close without feedback.
  • Attach the scan log Eset.txt to your next reply.
 
Sorry for the late reply, that scan took a while.

Long story, It's the standalone Eagle 9.6.2, which is no longer supported by the Editor (now integrated into Fusion) which was problematic for me, I've safely analyzed the crack on a VM a while back, the crack consist of only a few bytes modification of the executable file, I just renamed it to crack.exe, hence why it's in that CKFiles log.

To give a bit of context the VBS and BAT scripts are old stuff I made a decade ago, same for Visual Studio 2010 Builder.exe, FormatFactory seems to be a false positive since I've been using that app for a very long time.
Adobe Acrobat is cracked and some files were detected as potentially unsafe. Looks like a trojan have been found in Opera GX extensions folder from my Windows 10 backup.

Step 2. Export CBS (Component Based Servicing) hive
  • Click on the Start button and type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).

  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.

For your information I have not removed Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat DC, if you really think those are the cause of my Windows Update issue then I will remove them

No I'ts not cause of this issue, but it is a common cause of other issues so that's why I warned about the usage of cracks. The following error seems to be related to the core issue.

Retrieve SOFTWARE Hive
Note: The SOFTWARE hive has confidential and sensitive information in it so please send me a PM with a link to that particular hive so it's not in the public form.
  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
    You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named SOFTWARE.
  • Copy this file to your Desktop.
  • Now right click on the file on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file(s) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or WeTransfer and then just provide the link in your reply.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBak program now.

Warning: This script was written specifically for this system. Do not run this script on another system.
  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.
