[SOLVED] Windows Server 2012R2 update error code 80070032

Hello Ferdi,

That's good - I have tried to see if we can create a new tool to find these payload corruptions more quickly but it is not so simple as for the manifest files. For now we need to continue with DISM.

Download the file Ferdi24.zip to your desktop, then drag and drop it onto the SFCFix.exe file to complete.

After this has finished please redo DISM RestoreHealth and post the new CBS.log.

Hello Ferdi,

That's good - we are seeing all the corruptions now!

Download the file Ferdi25.zip to your desktop, then drag and drop it onto the SFCFix.exe file to complete.

After this has finished please redo DISM RestoreHealth and SFC /scannow and post the new CBS.log.

It looks like all the repairs have been done. Can you now get the Windows Update service to work?

Hello,

I started windows update and selected only kb5006714 (the current rollup). The installation stopped with error 0x80073701.

Please see attached file.

This is just an update on my availability - I was unavailable during this past week - I hope to gradually get back into working on threads from Monday 1st November.

Again, my apologies for the long delay. I have looked at the CBS log and can see that there seems to be a problem with the following package:
"Package_26_for_KB4592484~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.9.CRITDOQ-4592484-35_neutral_GDR"

I'd like to do a registry search for KB4592484

FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and type in cmd.
2.After you find the Command Prompt, right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
3. Copy and paste the following into the Command Prompt:

reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\COMPONENTS

4. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
5. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
6. Copy and paste KB4592484 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
7. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please attach this to your next reply. It is saved on your desktop named SearchReg.txt.

Hello,

the installation of KB4592484 failed with message "The update is not suitable for your computer". Surprisingly KB5001403 (latest servicing stack) installed without any error. I repeated the installation of KB4592484 with no success.

Dism finished well after both attempts.

Cbs.log complains about some (missing?) dll-files: msvc*80.dll

I need to check the Registry for your system again - the hives I have are now out of date after all the changes we have recently made and so I need new exports.

Step#1 - Export CBS hive
  • Click on the Start button and type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (.).
  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload to Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Step#2 - Export SideBySide
  1. Click on the Start button and type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide
  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (.)
  6. Name this file SxS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  7. Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace.

Step#3 - Export Components Hive
  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Many thanks!

I've now had a good look through your registry entries and I don't see anything inconsistent with your good working twin server.

I think the problem maybe that the equivalent amd64_microsoft.vc80.crt_ folders are not present in your WinSxS folder for the 50727.6195 and 50727.42 versions. Was the screenshot you included in post#192 the full list of all the msvc*80.dll files?

However, I don't think this should really matter as those particular versions are not needed anymore, they have been superseded.

I wonder if you can wait and see if the next cumulative update works. It might be that it becomes available this evening on your system because today is the second Tuesday of the month when MS provides the monthly updates.

Yes.

I tried to install all rollups manually from dec 2020 till oct 2021 without success. The current rollup (nov 2021) exists with code 80073701. I ran dism afterwards.

Please see attached file.

There continue to be a number of registry keys that are incorrect and errors are showing up for the various rollups that you have tried installing.

For example in the latest CBS log there are new errors for the following:

plus several others.

As much as I would like to continue with this I feel that the corruptions are just continuing. There may even be something in the hardware that is causing problems with the update downloads. Have you ever run any disk diagnostics to check on the state of the hard disks?

Hello,

the system runs in a virtual machine on an esxi host. I started chkdsk /f /r and there were filesystem inconsistencies found. As far as I understand there where some unused space freed, but no big damage or defective clusters/sectors. I attached the output from event logs. Sorry, it's in german. If you need a translation post the textblock here.

The host itself runs fine with no erros as far as I can see.

After that I tried to install the latest rollup again with no success. Dism says error 0x800f081f. Oh, boy...

Please see attached files.

Cheers

Hi Ferdi,

That's interesting, one of the errors picked up the last time has been fixed by DISM. The latest run of DISM indicates 5 payload errors that were not fixed. Let's try to sort those out.

As before download the attached file to your desktop, then drag and drop it onto the SFCFix.exe file to complete.

After this has finished please redo DISM RestoreHealth and post the new CBS.log.
