So the shut down button was showing that updates needed to be installed, so I went through that process. The 1 update seemed to install and then the computer shut down, but when I booted up again, Windows Update showed that the update failed, yet it shows that no updates need to be installed.SP1 is still not listed under system settings.

I restarted the service and its again showing that I need to install SP1.

Alright follow the instructions below please.

Uninstall a Windows Update - Command Prompt
Follow the instructions below to uninstall a Windows Update manually via the command prompt.
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below (you can copy/paste it, to paste in the command prompt, right-click inside it and select Paste):
    Code:
    wusa /uninstall /KB:2508429
  • Let me know the outcome of the command: either it uninstall the update or either it says that the update isn't installed on the system;

It was a different error message this time, it said an assembly wasn't found.

More progress, we're slowly getting to it :) The reason it's so long is that because we started with a real corrupt Registry in your case, and the tools we use cannot detect all of it at once. So once they return clean scans, we have to go with the "trial and error" method to get one more error each time, and fix it before moving forward.

Alright so it asked if i wanted to install it, then did so and prompted a restart, during which it made changes regarding the update.

That's good. Now that you restarted your system, you can attempt to install the SP1 again and if it fails, upload the two files.

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Do you think it's better to install it directly or through windows update?
