Windows Update Issue preventing me from Upgrade to Win 10

Understood. I don't think it will boot in normal mode. Shut down your machine so it is powered off. Then turn on your machine and begin hitting F8 on the keyboard to see if you get a menu of options (one of which is Safe Mode). Let me know what happens.

If you don't get this menu then we need to get back into the UEFI settings and make another change.

I was able to boot in safe mode using some instructions I found online. What should I do now?

i got to the welcome screen and held Shift while pressing restart. I chose just Safe Mode.

I was able to get to the welcome screen and when I entered my password, it would do nothing.Sorry for the confusion. I am now restarting in Safe Mode with Networking so I can run this removal tool. It does seem like AVG restarts the PC when cleaning it off and its restarting with no problem now.

What do I do next?

The Media Creation Tool did not work. Strangely enough, Google Chrome is also not working (Firefox is though).

OK, let's do the following.

Step#1 - Re-enable Secure Boot
Go back into the UEFI settings and re-enable.

Step#2 - Re-install Chrome
1. If you have bookmarks, let's save them by exporting them - Export Bookmarks
2. Then I need you to go Google Sync and sign into your account
3. Scroll down until you see the "Stop and Clear" button and click on the button. At the prompt click on "Ok"
4. Now we need to uninstall chrome. Note: When asked about user data or settings you must remove this also so please check the box.
5. Restart the computer and reinstall chrome, You can download The latest version from here - Google Chrome
6. Import your bookmarks back into Chrome
7. Sign back in to your Chrome browser so that your bookmarks sync with your online account.

Step#3 - FRST Scan
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop. Or if you still have this downloaded you may use this.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please copy and paste log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

while this is scanning. I have to ask- are you from the USA? and how much longer will you be available tonight?

I'm in the US (Eastern time) and am usually available until 11PM.

I'll review the files. Thanks.
