[SOLVED] [WinServer2012] Standard WSUS Problems

While I review this, can you disable IPv6 on your network adapter that connects this machine to the LAN?

You can do this by unbinding the adapter in the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box:
  • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  • Click Network and Sharing Center.
  • In the View your active networks area, click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
  • On the Networking tab, clear the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) check box, and then click OK.

Once this is done, check for updates and see if it works.

Please also do this for the server having issues.

Step#1 - Export WU Info

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\
  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file WU (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  7. Please zip and attach this file.

There is the 2nd registry export. I named it WU2012.zip for comparative purposes. I attempted to restart the Windows Update services after the change I made to the IPv6 setting, but it would not restart and it's stuck at a "Stopping" state. I'll reboot and try checking again. I'll keep you posted.

Just an update, rebooted just fine, IPv6 is currently disabled, and I'm currently checking for updates now.

If nothing is found after 30 minutes, please re-enable IPv6, run the following script and then reboot and check for updates again.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Nothing... Looked promising, but still sitting at the "Checking for updates..." screen for over an hour now...

Nothing... Both cores are sitting idle at 1-2%. Intel Xeon 3060 2.4 GHz btw so one of them is a virtual socket.

Actually, correction on my last statement, there's one network card in the server, it has two ports on it, currently plugged into the one on the right.

Thanks for the info. Can you please zip up all the files in the following directory and send me a PM with the link to download the file?
