removed again. you had said vipre and the ibm program. should I have any anti virus

I cannot udate any driver even through the device manager

only updates which appear to install drivers fail. Also unless I specify windows\winsxs updates fail because files missing in user\susan\appdata\local\temp

Thanks. We want to ensure all security software/Virus removal software is removed from your machine for the test. So please uninstall

VIPRE Advanced Security

Once that is uninstalled, reboot and then create a new user on the machine. Name it sysnative (or something else) and make it an administrator of the machine.
Sign in with that new user and then attempt to install the update. If it fails, please zip/attach your c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log

I had removed it via control panel but just removed with the vipre removal tool.

Good. Try the update and see if it works. If it fails, please do the following.

Create a new user on the machine. Name it sysnative (or something else) and make it an administrator of the machine.

Windows update does not display the update right now. It has come back and disappeared a couple of times. I have the standalone installer for it which also had failed.I am not sure if something like sfc /scannow put it back

It's VERY unusual if you check for updates and it doesn't show updates. It's extremely reliable at detection of updates. So when you check for updates, nothing still shows up?

Right now it finds updates for Security Esentials but nothing else. It found those before but then we did something and the other updates appeared. I still see them in the failed updates but not in hidden or available.

I did the reset and then looked for updates and they were still missing. Only had 2 updates for security essentials

microsoft has stopped pushing kb4088875 as it is buggy per computerworld. I did a google search for kb4088875 and it appeared at the top
