[SOLVED] Cannot install any updates for Windows 7 x64 bit

Yes please uninstall it. This software may have come with backup software or networking software. Let me know when complete. Thanks.

Good. Let's do the following again.

FRST Scan
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please copy and paste log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

Thanks. Can you please uninstall the following programs. If you want to keep any of them simply let me know why as I know there may be some you would like to keep. Thanks.

Ant.com Toolbar
Backup Manager Basic
Bovada Casino
BovadaPoker
Disaster Recovery Drivers
Elf 1.12 Toolbar
FW LiveUpdate
Java 8 Update 25
Microsoft Works
MSN Toolbar
MyWinLocker
NovaBACKUP
NTI Backup Now 5

The only ones on the list that I would want are:
Both Bovada programs and Nova Backup. However I can re-install them once we resolve the update problem. So I'll uninstall all of them now.

Thanks.

Great. After all the programs are uninstalled please do the following again. The options will be a little different than the first time around.

Step#1 - Run Windows Repairs
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
1. Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable to your desktop.
2. Once the file is downloaded, right-click on the file on your desktop and choose Extract All...

3. Keep the defaults and click the Extract button.
4. A folder named tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio will be extracted to the desktop. Once the extraction is complete the folder will open.
5. Inside this folder, there is a folder named Tweaking.com - Windows Repair. Open this folder as well.

6. Double-click on Repair_Windows.exe to open. Note: Please make sure all of your programs are closed and anything you were working on is saved as we will be rebooting.
7. When the program opens, click the Reboot to Safe Mode button at the bottom of the screen. Answer Yes to allow.
8. Once rebooted into Safe Mode, open the program again. When the program opens, click the Repairs tab and click the Open Repairs button.
9. A backup of your registry will be made. After a few moments you will have many options from which you can choose.
10. Keep all the defaults selected.

11. Ensure the Restart check box is selected and click the Start Repairs button in the lower right of the screen. This may take some time to run so be patient.

12. Once the fixes are complete you will be prompted to restart your machine. Answer Yes.

Once this is complete, then please check for updates again and let it run until the list comes up. It could take awhile.

Before I tackle the Windows Repair, I wanted to tell you I ran into a couple of problems as I was uninstalling the various items. I can't find anything that says "Backup Manager Basic" There are two items that are close. They are listed in the first screenshot.

Backup Manager.gif

I tried to uninstall NTI Backup Now 5, but part of the way through the process I received an error message. See the screenshot below.

NTI Backup Now 5.jpg

I also received an error message during the uninstall of Elf 1.12 Toolbar. Please see the screenshot below.

Elf Error.gif

During one of the uninstalls I had to change out of a clean boot to finish the uninstall. I stayed in the regular mode to finish the rest of them. I will try the two problem ones in a clean boot environment and see if that makes any difference *. Thanks

*Did not make any difference.

No problem. Provide me a list of which ones didn't uninstall and still appear in add/remove programs.

Don't worry about Backup Manager Basic right now.

Elf 1.12 Toolbar
NTI Backup Now 5

These are the only ones still appearing in the list.

I wasn't sure if you wanted me to proceed with the Repair Windows program or not, so I'm holding off until I heard back from you. Thanks.

It took awhile for the updates to populate but they showed up. I started with one update and it took about 5 or 10 minutes to download and install. However, the next one has been trying for about 2 hours now and it is not showing any progress. I thought the problem was solved when the first one took so fast but I guess not.

Thanks. Let's do the following again so I can see fresh logs.

FRST Scan

Please uninstall the following program.

iolo technologies' System Mechanic

Then perform the following.

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
2. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
3. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
4. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
