Greetings,

Although I anticipate it will fail, please attempt to install KB4486563 and upon failure provide the latest CBS log.

Hi,

I now have 3 important updates (KB4486563 is no more)
Here is what I have:
KB4487078
KB4489878
KB4474419

I assume you want me to install the second one? Should I try the rest?

Thank you.

There are quite a number of similar steps we are going to take. When asked to try to install a Windows Update choose the lowest numbered one which is the oldest. The purpose of this is not to actually install the update, for that won't occur for awhile, but the CBS log created after failure will confirm the other steps we took worked.

Please do this.

Manually Uninstalling a Windows Update

--------------------
  • Click Start, type Command, right click on Command Prompt (or cmd) above and select Run as administrator
  • Copy and paste the following after the Command Prompt and hit Enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:3172605
  • If the update is found click Yes on the Do you want to uninstall the following Windows software update? screen
  • If the update is not installed click OK
===================================================

  • You should receive the first message but may or may not see the next 2 messages:
The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)?
(Type Y and hit Enter if present)
  • If at any time an error message appears right click inside the command window, click Select All, then hit Enter to copy the information. Paste the information in your reply

I'm a bit confused. The lowest KB number is not the oldest. KB4487078 is the oldest (12th Feb) while KB4474419 is the lowest (12th Mar)

Which one should I end up trying?

Another note: I usually get a 100% on these. I don't know what to make of this following message?

Hi,

sorry for the delay.

Alright, I have some stuff to report this time:

  • uninstall went fine
  • Installing went fine, and it asked me to restart this time. I did so
  • Ran sfc /scannow and I got the following message:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Went to check on windows update, saw that there is a new KB update file on the list: KB3172605

Not sure if I should proceed or not, so I stopped right here waiting for instructions. Here is the CBS:
MEGA

Following up:

Windows update just did an autoupdate, which restarted my PC. It installed KB3172605, and installed KB4474419.
But then it failed to install KB4487078.

Now, only 2 important updates are remaining:
KB4487078
KB4489878

Could you provide the latest CBS log so I can review the failed Update information?

Hi,

Just tried to install it again now, just to be sure. Obviously it failed. Here is the log

Hello,

Thanks for the instructions. I just performed them, but I do have to note that I accidentally did step 2 before step 1 (uninstalled update before running the sfcfix). Please let me know if that changed anything.
Otherwise, sfcfix, fixlog, and searchreg text files are attached. The update uninstalled then installed just fine, sfc scan reported no issues, and finally, update failed.

Finally, you'll find the latest CBS also attached.

I hope I didnt forget anything :)

Thanks!
