Error 80073712: Havent been able to install most updates for almost 2 years

Hi,

I must inform you that, in the past few days, I have been some heavy video encoding almost 24/7 (leaving it running overnight even), which led to its eventual crashing. It crashed 3-4 times.
I just came and restarted the PC before running this fix, and I was presented with chkdsk screen on boot. It did detect and correct a few stuff.

I am not sure how important this is to the whole thing, but better be safe than sorry.


Anyway, so I ran the steps, zip will be PM'd to you, and here is the fixlog:

  • Hit the Windows Key + R at the same time
  • Copy and paste the following in the Run box and hit Enter
C:\Windows\System32\config

  • Right click on components (File not Text Document), select Send to, then click Compressed (zipped) folder
  • A zipped Components folder will be created in the same location
  • Upload the zipped folder to either SendSpace or the upload site of your choice and post the download link in your reply

Hi,

I am not able to do the above. The file has a lock sign on it. When I try to create a zip file it says "file not found or no read permission". When I try to copy it to desktop to zip it from there, it says "The action can't be completed because the file is open in system"

Note that my user account is the account on the PC, and it's obviously an admin account.

  • Click Start, type cmd, right click on cmd above and select Run as administrator

  • Note: If you do not receive a notification The operation completed successfully stop here and let me know as the remainder of the steps may not work properly
  • Close the Command Prompt window
  • Download RegBak and save it to your Desktop. (Despite any warnings it is safe to download)
  • Right click on the icon and select Run as administrator
  • Click Next, select I accept the agreement, then Next 3 more times
  • Click Install, then Finish to launch the program
  • Click New Backup, leave the default settings then click Start
  • Click Close after you see Finished successfully
  • Right click on the folder with today's date under Date of Backup and select Explore Backup...
  • Double click on the Windows
  • Double click on System32
  • Double click config
  • Copy and paste the Components file to your Desktop
