The file that downloaded is winsxs21.zip, is this correct?
Yes, winsxs21.zip is correct. Sorry for the confusion.

OK, here is a screen grab of the update. I'm going to hold of on doing anything until I hear back from you.
Don't install any updates until I tell you to do so.

Just to confim, I drag the winsxs21.zip file over the SFCFix executable?

And how do I not let the computer install the update, it looks like it will automatically happen when I shutdown and restart.

I ran msconfig and switched to safe mode with network and restarted so there was no update. I ran SFCFix Part 1 in safe mode and Part 2 in normal mode.

SFCFix and CBS files are attached.

Great. The file cbs.log is much cleaner also.

Step 1:
WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it on your desktop.

Step 2:
  • Note: Start Windows in safe mode.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
    1p8eDnI.gif
  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Note: Start Windows in normal mode.
  • Attach that file to your next reply.

Step 3:
Open an elevated command prompt.
Copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

Code:
sfc /verifyonly
Wait for this to finish before you continue

Code:
copy %windir%\Logs\CBS\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Zip this file and attach the zipped cbs.txt to your next post.

It seems like we made some nice progress with the safe mode SFCFix operations. Should I create another system image just to be safe?

SFCFix and CBS files are attached.

Yes, you can create a system image.

Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log.
  1. Download SURT for your system. (Windows 7 SP1 x64)
  2. Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go through the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes).
  3. On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.
  4. Attach this log to your next reply.
Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.
System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

Also, I keep trying the scanner after each step forward but the scripted diagnostics native host is still not working so the troubleshooter will not run.

Great that the tool SURT runs normally now. Attached a first fix.

Step 1:
WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
    1p8eDnI.gif
  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Step 2:
Start the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
On completion, attach the logfile C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log to your next reply.

The hotfix is still needed as part of the SURT. Screen grab and CheckSUR files are attached.

Does it look like I can allow some updates or do you want to direct which updates to install and when?
