I had successfully installed 2 updates after the failure (the 1 of 18 updates done last night), so I re-did just the one failing update this morning to make sure it was in the log.

Same error... Is that update the only one left you have to install?
 
Can you try to install an optional one (that isn't a driver)? I want to see if it'll go through. If it fails, upload the CBS.log and WindowsUpdate.log for me please.

Both installed fine (malicious definitions & update kb3161102).

ps - Windows update keeps auto updating that failing update on reboot... Do you know how to take it out of the queue so it doesn't try to install the update each time I shut down?

Okay so it's really an issue with that update. To cancel that task properly, you'll need your Windows installation media or a Recovery media.

Luckily, I was able to stop the attempts to auto install by deleting all the updates that had been downloaded by WU. I then hid the update. So for now, it still reads as no important updates left!.

I think it's all finished until some other problem arises for which I will make a new thread. As of now, I can install all but that one update and no important updates are pending. I was able to delete all the downloaded updates and that got rid of the auto install issue on shutdown.
