Hi,

Please try to install the backup feature again and let me know the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

I actually tried to remove it yesterday and it failed but I forgot to include the logs. Here they are.

SFCFix ran and I have attached the result file. The uninstall failed with the same error and I have included the CBS logs.

The latest error looks the same, but is slightly different, could you please provide new copy's of the following hive files.

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Export CBS (Component Based Servicing) ans SBS (Side By Side) hive through the command line
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type CMD.
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, select the option Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following commands one at a time into the command prompt and press enter after each.
Code:
REG Save "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing" "%userprofile%\Desktop\CBS.hiv"
REG Save "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide" "%userprofile%\Desktop\SBS.hiv"
  • ZIP both *.hiv files and attach this file as attachment to your next reply.

That's a very strange error. System Manager definitely thinks it is installed.

I applied the fix but the error is still the same.

This is absolutely a strange issue, especially since a Process Monitor trace did not reveal the issue(s) in the previous logs? In the latest registry (HIVE) files, I do see that many keys are probably missing, but not when I filter the ProcMon log. Could you please try to uninstall the BU feature again with Process Monitor running, but stop the trace this time after 5 minutes when it fails.

I may need to do this after hours when I can turn off some of the software running on this server. I ran procmon as instructed, but the log file is almost 1GB, compressed.
