As suspected, it was a different one. Let's try to uninstall manually first.
Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:2750841
4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

1. Go to Windows Updates and let me know which updates show to install besides Service Pack 1.

- Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
- Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
- Save any open documents and close all open windows.
- On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
- Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
- SFCFix will now process the script.
- Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
- Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

So at least we are past the other errors. This is a new one.
These errors relate to update KB2813170 so I'd like to try and remove. Let me know if the removal is successful. Thanks.

Excellent. Go ahead and try the SP now. If it fails please send me an updated CBS.log.
Miraculouly that worked! My ultimate goal though is to update to Windows 10, but in order to do that I needed IE11, and in order to do that I needed SP1. Now service pack 1 is installed, I thought that the other steps would be a piece of cake. But I was wrong.
IE11 won't install as it says other updates must be installed first. I have tried to install the prerequisite updates, but it always gets stuck on the 'searching for updates screen' whether trying to download them through the download centre or windows update, and even the fixit for windows update gets stuck at this stage too.
Please help!

No problem. At least we got SP1 installed. Let's see if we can get you further. Please do the following.
Step#1 - Run Windows Repairs
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
1. Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable to your desktop.
2. Once the file is downloaded, right-click on the file on your desktop and choose Extract All...
3. Keep the defaults and click the Extract button.
4. A folder named tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio will be extracted to the desktop. Once the extraction is complete the folder will open.
5. Inside this folder, there is a folder named Tweaking.com - Windows Repair. Open this folder as well.
6. Double-click on Repair_Windows.exe to open. Note: Please make sure all of your programs are closed and anything you were working on is saved as we will be rebooting.
7. When the program opens, click the Reboot to Safe Mode button at the bottom of the screen. Answer Yes to allow.
8. Once rebooted into Safe Mode, open the program again. When the program opens, click the Repairs tab and click the Open Repairs button.
9. A backup of your registry will be made. After a few moments you will have many options from which you can choose.
10. Please click the Unselect All button and then click to enable only the following ones:

11. Ensure the Restart check box is selected and click the Start Repairs button in the lower right of the screen. This may take some time to run so be patient.

OK. Let's do the repairs without booting to Safe mode then. Are you able to power off and power back up?
Even with powering off and powering back up and starting windows normally, it now gets stuck in that same loop. I have tried start up repair and that just prompts me to disconnect any new drivers (which I don't have) and then asks me to restart. But it gets caught in the loop every time.

No problem. We can resolve. For clarification, are you saying that you can boot back into normal mode but then it just asks you to reboot again? Or are you saying that you can't boot into Normal mode or Safe mode right now?
